The original collection of wines from the Christian W. Klay award-winning collection were named in honor of historic sites situated along America's first turnpike - the National Road. Originally, this road was no more than an Indian trail through the wilderness. However, by 1802,  the need for a safe passage from east to west compelled the U.S. Congress to fund the building of the National Road. It began in Cumberland, Maryland and ultimately reached Vandalia, Illinois.
